Local business and civic leader is running as an alternative delegate for businessman and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney
Champaign, Illinois—November 3, 2011—Today Habeeb G. Habeeb, Champaign County Republican Party Treasurer and candidate for Republican County Chairman, publicly endorsed Gov. Mitt Romney for the Republican presidential nomination . He is also circulating petitions to be an alternative delegate for Governor Romney at the 2012 Republican National Convention. This personal announcement comes in advance of the first Illinois Republican Pre-Presidential Straw Poll this Saturday.
“In just three years, we’ve all felt the impact of President Obama’s inability to develop and work with Congress to pass sound legislation that will help our citizens obtain gainful employment and put our economy back on track. America needs a proven executive that can effectively work with all branches of government to execute real reform. I believe that Gov. Romney is the leader we need in the nation’s highest office”, said Habeeb. “What I think stands out most about Mitt Romney is that he brings a solid background from both the private and public sectors. He’s successfully turned around flailing corporations, and as the Republican Governor of Massachusetts with a Democrat-controlled legislature, he pulled the state out from a massive deficit and implemented policy measures that help create jobs by the thousands.
As of September 30, 2011 Governor Romney had raised 35.6 million in campaign funds, the highest amount among all the GOP candidates. “As we seen in the last election, President Obama has the ability to raise obscene amounts of campaign cash. In order for Republicans to win next November, we need a candidate who has proven that he is competitive in raising funds, and has a strong national campaign organization. Gov. Romney has earned the support of donors and has developed a strong grassroots campaign program”, said Habeeb.
On Saturday, November 5, the Champaign County Republican Party will hold in-person voting at its new headquarters (2101 Windsor Place, Champaign) for the Illinois Republican Pre-Presidential Straw Poll from 9:00am-5:00pm.
